Project Overview

The project is located in the heart of the Museum Park area of Downtown Miami. Situated directly on Biscayne Bay, Baker also completed the Perez Art Museum. The Science Museum starts out with a below grade parking garage level. The first floor is the Plaza level that connects all of the buildings of the Science Museum, as well as the adjoining Art Museum next door. There are two 6 level structures that houses exhibits and museum offices, connected by an open air exposed concrete breezeway and flanked by the spherical Planetarium structure. The Planetarium is a one-of-a-kind spherical concrete structure, with the lower half being architectural concrete. It extends two stories from the ground and 85 feet in diameter with the top of the sphere being precast. Connecting bridges also span to the Living Core Structure, a four level building that houses seven architectural concrete tank exhibits. This project was completed by our Fort Lauderdale, Florida, team.
