Expanding Access to World-Class Care in BCCI’s Southern Region

When it opens in 2024, the eight-story UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital will expand access to state-of-the-art healthcare to a broader population.

Co-workers in BCCI’s Southern Region are helping to make that happen. BCCI’s project scope includes the 144-bed inpatient hospital, a 673-space precast parking garage, a pedestrian bridge to the Mays Cancer Center, and all other concrete site work.

The project team is using advanced construction techniques to safely deliver high-quality work on schedule. One example is the use of liquid nitrogen to cool the concrete for the tower’s transfer beams. The concrete had to be cooled to 75 degrees at point of placement to meet the engineered mass concrete plan and project specifications in the middle of the Texas summer. Each beam is 8’ tall, 7’ wide, and 100’ long and required 200 yards of concrete.
