The Baker Cement team focused on residential work within Oxford, Ohio, during the early years.
Baker Cement was awarded its first commercial job with the construction of the First National Bank in Hamilton, Ohio. This project moved the company from the residential area to the commercial market.
Baker opened an office in Houston, Texas and to reflect the growth in services, the company changed its name from Baker Cement to Baker Concrete Construction, Inc.
Transco Tower project set the record for the largest continuous mat pour in the least number of hours - 10,500 cubic yards placed in 16 hours for the 1.4-million-square-foot Houston high-rise.Play video
The 1980s was a decade of automotive plant building for Baker. In 1983 Baker began the multi-phase Toyota Manufacturing Plant project in Georgetown and continued to work on that job for 20 years.
Baker expanded services to include mainline paving, with its first job using the process on expansion work at the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport
In the 90s and 2000s, Baker worked on many professional arenas and stadiums, including Mile High Stadium for the Denver Broncos.
High-rises boomed in Florida in the mid-2000s. In 2005, the Miami office secured the W Hotel & Resort project in Ft. Lauderdale.
Baker acquired Brothers Concrete Construction in Washington, D.C., which becomes Baker DC.
Baker began work for the Kimpton Hotel Palm Springs project in California. The seven-story hotel is the first cast-inplace structure Baker has ever done in the state of California.
Baker placed the mat foundation for the capitol Tower in Houston, which spans 35 stories and 750,000 square feet of office space.
Baker topped off the 83-story Panorama Tower in Miami, Florida. Baker broke two records when pouring the 11,677 cubic yards of concrete in 23 hours for the foundation.
Baker Concrete celebrates 50 years of leading the concrete construction industry. Company-wide celebrations, record breaking charitable contributions, and tremendous growth marked the milestone year.
